The scope for the project started off as a kitchen remodel with the goal of creating more space and improving the functionality of the kitchen but as the project progressed we also replaced the floors throughout the house and remodeled all the bathrooms.
Starting off with the kitchen, to achieve the goal of improving the functionality we decided - in collaboration with the homeowners - to take up a portion of the deck to build a walk-in pantry well lit by natural light. The pantry also has plenty of storage and a 2nd fridge to house all the extra snacks for the kiddos. We took more of the deck to create a larger dining room area for the family. As for cabinet modifications, we removed the old peninsula and replaced that with a large center island that houses appliances and additional storage. We replaced the old electric stove top with a 42" gas Wolf range and built a custom hood cover to maintain the Contemporary aesthetic. The finishes used on the kitchen are slim shaker oak cabinets, quartzite countertops and backsplash, and a neutral colored ceramic tile for the floor.
Moving onto the bathrooms, we renovated the full guest bathroom that has a drop ceiling to house HVAC ducting. We rerouted the ducting to remove the soffit and installed finishes picked out by the homeowner. Similarly for the 2 kid's bathrooms, all fixtures stayed in the same place. We simply gutted the bathroom and installed new plumbing fixtures, tiles, vanity, toilet, and other finishes.
The most significant changes were made to the master bathroom. The previous master bathroom was super cramped so we pushed out a wall to take up unused space in the master bedroom. The bump out allowed us to build a walk-in wet room complete with a walk-in shower and freestanding bathtub. We also moved the toilet to create space for a double vanity and medicine cabinets so that the homeowners weren't so limited on counter and storage space.
