Kitchen & living area remodel on Crest Ave, Alamo

The family wanted a general update of their kitchen to address two concerns; cracks on the original tile floor because of foundation settling from the excessive rains and to change the layout so that the kitchen didn’t feel so isolated from the rest of the home. The solution we came up with was to reinforce the foundation with piers and to remove 2 sections of wall that closed off the kitchen then relocate the fixtures and appliances to make the new space functional.

The new layout has the center island as the focal point of the room. The island serves a few functions, it houses the sink, undercabinet storage, dishwasher, speedoven, and the large overhang creates comfortable bar seating. The lack of wall space would typically be an issue but the back wall of cabinets hides a full size 7’ wide butler pantry with plenty of storage, counterspace for a coffee bar and a little sink.

A few notable features of this kitchen are the vaulted ceiling and skylights over the island. We designed this with the homeowners to highlight the island as the focal point. Another great feature is the 10’ wide 3 panel sliding door that opens to the spacious side yard. Phase 2 of this project will be to redo the landscaping of the property so the wide sliders were put in to be the doorway into their future outdoor living space.
