For this project, the homeowners wanted to keep it simple by not changing the layout of the kitchen and to simply update the floors, cabinets, countertops, appliances, and finishes.
Previously, the kitchen had dated oak cabinets, a tile countertop and backsplash, and floors that were discolored after years of use. Electrical fixtures and gas lines needed to be brought up to code so part of the scope of work was replacing the electrical panel to a larger unit to accommodate all the new breakers.
Moving on to the finishes the floor was previously finishes with 1/2" wide oak hardwood planks. We replaced those with a 4" wide Walnut engineered hardwood floors. The shaker cabinets were custom made by Diablo Valley Cabinetry to fit the angled backwall of the kitchen. For the countertops the homeowners paired a Walnut butcher block for the island and a grey quartz for the rest of the counters. For the backsplash, we installed a classic staggered subway tile but the glossy finish creates a visually alluring effect and uneven level on the tile face breaks up the monotony of too many flat surfaces.
