Master suite addition on Dolores Dr, Lafayette

The homeowners were feeling cramped in their 10’x12’ master bedroom and tiny en-suite bathroom so they decided to build a larger master suite that can accommodate their needs better. We built their new 270 sq ft master suite complete with an ensuite bathroom, walk-in closet, and office nook behind the existing garage of the home.

One unique aspect about this project was the home’s proximity to Highway 24 so the homeowners wanted to make sure that their new haven wouldn’t be ruined with the sounds of traffic. To solve this problem, we installed Rockwool ‘Safe n Sound’ insulation and installed QuietRock drywall sheets for added sound insulation. All windows are double pane argon filled. We did research as to whether ‘sound proof’ windows would help but for double the cost of a good Milgard window, we decided to forgo the upgraded windows.

In the end, we completed the project in 12 weeks and with the windows closed, they don’t hear the freeway.
